To do what?
In 2016, CBB has considered the theme of migratory crisis and integration of refugees as a priority in its activity program. We have developed this through different kinds of activities as well at local as international levels
With participants involved in these different projects we thought important to continue to develop further this topic and especially by focusing on stereotypes and hate speeches targeting asylum seekers and refugees. That’s how the idea of Eldorado 2.0 youth exchange emerged.
As the peak of the migration crisis is now behind us, in this youth exchange we would like to explore more the next challenge: the inclusion of asylum seekers and recognized refugees in our communities. We’ll start our work around the NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) concept and try to understand better the mechanisms leading to prejudices. As we are youth organizations, we also would like to put the emphasis on the important part that we can play with our youngsters in order to promote the values of citizenship and intercultural dialogue.
Activities:
During the exchange, we will alternate debates and artistic workshops with meetings, cultural visits, kayaking on Ourthe River, meeting in Namur with “Collectif Citoyen Namur Solidaires” and other cultural activities.
Through the use of non-formal education and artistic methods, we hope participants will develop their critical mind and learn about how these topics are treated in different countries and in Europe in general. Participants will also have the opportunity to go on cultural visits linked with the topic of the project.
The community life, the meeting between the participants simply through leisure time activities and the sharing of tasks from the daily life (cooking, cleaning, shopping…) will also be an important aspect of the exchange.
Through visual arts methods led by a professional artist, participants will express their opinion on the topic and give their point of view on how each of us, by promoting citizenship values in our society, can be helpful to facilitate the integration of refugees.
The artistic outcomes of this project will be shown in the City of Marche-en-Famenne through a public exhibition.
Living conditions and accommodation: The participants will be accommodated in a former boarding school in Marche-en-Famenne (complexe Saint-François) and will share double or triple bedrooms. They will have a kitchen, a big meeting room and an outdoor terrace.
Competences and learnings outcomes tackled by the exchange:
Young people will learn how to develop and defend their personal point of view, and also respect opinions of other people. This aspect for us looks most important because it’s connected with refugee’s integration.
This program entails the development of leadership skills through fulfillment of common tasks, and sharing responsibilities.
Participants will develop intercultural skills: to value diversity, to ignore stereotypes, and to understand that migration is a normal world process, and probably even their relatives had to move away.
